Why is La Palma called the Isla Bonita?

By | 10 March, 2024 | 0 comments

As many of you may already know, the island of La Palma is known as the Isla Bonita. But where does this statement come from?

The answer is very simple, its high mountains, its volcanic orography, its sea and its blue sky, make La Palma a beautiful island without a doubt.

35% of La Palma is covered with protected green spaces and is the greenest of the Canary Islands.  The dorsal part of the island is formed by volcanoes such as Cumbre Vieja. And the central part is a geological formation in the form of a caldera that has given it the name of La caldera de Taburiente

On the other hand, the coast of Palma is reserved for the cultivation of bananas, the main source of production and resource of the island.

Another of the island’s charms is its sky. During the night it is full of a blanket of stars and during the day, it is clean, clear, and uncluttered. If you like stargazing, La Palma is one of the best astronomical observatories in the world from several viewpoints on the island.

Its gastronomy is another reason to call La Palma the beautiful island. Its artisan cheeses are a gastronomic delight that every visitor has to try. Not to mention the wrinkled potatoes with their ‘mojo’, one of the island’s gastronomic tourist attractions.

This, together with Malvasia, the representative wine of the area, made using a traditional method, is ideal to accompany the sweets of Palma: marquesotes, almendrados, mantecados and bienmesabe that you cannot miss.

Do you need any other reason to understand why La Palma is the beautiful island? Come and visit it and enjoy your stay at Hotel Hacienda San Jorge.
